My hand, my house, my my

Given how screwed up my hand is, I thought it was about time to demonstrate what condition it’s actually in. Last night, after crashing about the kitchen and office, I asked Brenna to take a couple of shots.

This is the best of the lot. After this Brenna started having focus and attitude problems. I won’t say which was with the camera and which was with herself.

On top of that, I finally broke down and allowed Brenna to get her new pet. She paid for the tank, the accessories and the critter herself. It’s a giant African millipede. She’s named it Louis.

It is about 7 to 8 inches long and fairly docile. As the pet store owner said, “this is the easiest pet you’ll ever own.”
As I’ve also mentioned, I have a pretty and often barely clothed house guest. Here’s a couple of somewhat not safe for work pictures of her.

Did I mention that she’s a bit of a tease? To her credit, she’s helping out around the house and with the kids to a great degree. In fact, I think last night she finally helped me reset and reinforce to the kids how potentially dangerous some of our abandoned sites expeditions are. That was in evidence on Wednesday night when we went on a completely spur of the moment abandoned sites “bum hunt.” Yes, we went looking for Felicia. We didn’t find her per se but we found both the original house (Floyd’s Place) and the second house (Bessie’s/Felicia’s Place) had been heavily trashed. Pictures and story to follow later.
May the solstice bring peace, reflection and joy. Fall is here today.

Date: 2006-09-23 04:44 am (UTC)Did I also happen to mention that she's not only an exhibitionist, but that she's moderately insane? I say this in a real and creative sense of the word. She's also highly protective of the kids.
As for role models, Brenna is already a pretty well rounded girl. Though I'd certainly like for her to have a role model on a real and local sense, no-one has been willing (she's phenominally stubborn) and ready (I come with this package). I thought I'd had someone very special (several times) who Brenna respected and knew pretty well, but that kinda fell apart. So far as Trish being a role model (good or bad), at 17 she graduated with her GED (full equivalency). At 21, she bought her own house in Spokane. For 4 years, she was taking in homeless/street children and often protecting them from predators. She isn't the greatest, but she's certainly not a bad start.

Date: 2006-09-22 07:01 pm (UTC)Millipedes of this type can excrete a very mild poison. It's so mild you'd have to suck on the beastie to get ill. There's an image I can't get over. Brenna was actually the one who pointed it out to me. My darlin daughter really did her research on the insect before I'd even consider letting her have one.

Date: 2006-09-23 04:20 pm (UTC)We have an odd selection of critters here. She already had a Hotot Dwarf Rabbit. When Trish moved in with us, she brought her 13 year old black cat (so appropriate). The millipede has been content staying in it's tank and hasn't attempted escape.
