Well, it finally happened. My D-SLR camera broke tonight at a show. The objective mirror fell out of it's mounting brackets. I noticed it during a lens change. I still have all the parts, but I doubt I can put it back together. I either will need to use my old film SLR, borrow another D-SLR or buy one and rush one here before the weekend of the 27th.

Shit..

The camera shop called and left a message that my camera is back from the shop. Seven and a half weeks gone, no repairs done, 5 shows missed, one modeling shoot delayed..

I'm picking it up in 30 minutes before it disappears again into the great camera void.

BTW, given unsettled plans, trick or treat for the kids and a gimpy knee, heading to Hollywood tonight for Hex is pretty much shot. I think I might make myself Jello Shots tonight instead :)

Damn, I just heard from the camera shop about my 5D's needed repairs. One of the fall-outs from Minolta being bought by Sony is the cost for repairs and availability of parts. I was just informed that it will cost me $430 to get the camera repaired. It's still useable as is, but I was hoping to get an auto-focus and first shot cycling problem dealt with.

Double damn..

I can buy a new Sony Alpha 100K body for around $500. All my lens will work with the Alpha too. Looks like I'm saving money and getting a new camera for the holidays.

I managed to find a great deal on a used Tamron 28mm to 200mm Aspheric lens recently. It arrived yesterday. Oh I think I'm going to enjoy this. It cost less than $100, and normally sold for $550 retail new.

The Sony slant on this is actually written in plain English. It gives me hope that the camera and lenses will be continued to be supported in some form or manner. Quality control has always been an issue with Sony, but K-M looks like it will be producing SLR cameras and lenses under the Sony brand.

Well, I've now spent over $900 over the last year on a new Minolta camera and several accessories. The camera's tremendous and many people have complimented the quality. Now I'm faced with an interesting dilemma...

Minolta just sold off their camera business to Sony

It was already difficult to find Minolta lens and accessories, but this is going to really throw the process up into the air. The question is whether or not Sony will support the older (Hell even the newer) Minolta lens and products. In the short term, I'm sure they will, but to what level and cost...

THIS REALLY BITES

EDIT: The hits just keep on coming. I browsed the Konica-Minolta site for lens and accessories. EVERY LENS they list for sale was "Out of Stock." They appearently shut down production last year to be completely out of stock already.
