This site was amazing in so many little ways. One of the biggest surprises was in finding three houses that were substantially intact and in recoverable condition.

Central house

The local druggies had gotten into this place briefly.

Then the mountain rained down upon them.

Some of these places were in remarkably good condition.

Nicely trimmed yards, groomed trees, stone lined properties..

Here’s a spacious sunroom/porch

His home had also had an unfinished skylight.

The main room of the central house. Yes that’s carpet on the floor.

The well stocked kitchen…

Even the bathroom was intact.

Not all the houses were in as good a shape.

Only shadows remain

This concludes the tour of the Whitmore Mine complex on Standard Hill. The area is very impressive. I’m hoping that the planned modeling shoot there goes well.

Disclaimer: I can not emphasize how potentially dangerous this site is to the unwary explorer. There is broken heavy equipment, sharp objects and potentially deadly industrial chemicals littered throughout the site. If anything happens, the nearest people are over a mile distant and the nearest hospital is 30 miles away. Beyond industrial hazards, there are multiple documented cases of vertical shaft mines being left marginally covered and tragically rediscovered in the open desert close by. I’ve thoroughly recon’d and researched this site to minimize the risks.
