Injury Update
Sep. 17th, 2006 10:24 pmThis is going to be sorta short. I went to the doctor yesterday after Christp[he's soccer game. After an extensive wait, I was finally ushered in to meet the throughly disinterested ortho doctor who barely looked at my hands. He said my breaks were healing, but the joint damage in my hands wasn;t going as fast as it could. Rather than taping it or casting it, he had the technician put an enormous aluminum splint and tape wrap over it. Essentially I can't move it when this thing is on. It's going to make typing and normal uses of my right hand, pretty difficult.
Long story short, he noted that there was probably tendon and ligament damage in the joints of the index finger and middle finger (at the palm). He wants to check again in 2 to 3 weeks and see is there's improved range of motion. If it isn't, the prospect may require surgery to repair damage. Either way, I'm completely out of commission for strenous activities. This includes any manner of fencing activities. In fact when I told the doctor the injury came from fencing, he was less than amused.
Oh well, configured as it is, Trish and I still drove down to LA and caught the live show she talked me into. The band was Zonk from out of San Francisco. They play an alternative, electronica, techno, hip hop mix. I wasn't at all sure that I'd like them, but they had one of the most energetic and polished shows I'd ever seen for a small band. They'd apparently openned for Concrete Blonde last year during their tour. In the end, I bought their two EPs and chatted up with the band after the show. We got home at about 1:30 and crashed.
Today after a very leisurely morning, we took Trish out with us on an abandoned sites hunt and shoot. The brace makes shooting an exercise in creative body control. It can be done, but it slows down the shooting process. We did some follow up shots at a couple sites and finally got to explore building at the Silver Queen Station that I've longed for. I was very happy.
Congrats to Duke Edric and Faizeh (also from Dun Or) on winning Crown Tourney this past Saturday. Oh the tempation to play again too early is way too strong, but I'll resist. The hand makes it easier.
