Greetings Happy Haunters!

“For you, in whom the spirit lives, we now invoke the blessed dead”

Thirty-three years is a long time to continue a family tradition that involves months of preparation and becomes more time consuming and elaborate each year. That is exactly what one of the volunteers at the Hallowed Haunting Grounds (HHG) told me. The display these wonderful folks have been putting on was never for profit and was consistently THE standard by which Halloween haunts of all types were measured by not only in southern California but throughout the US. This was inspired by the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland originally, but HHG took on a “life” of its own. From chats and letters, it can easily be said that they influenced, inspired and certainly impressed many thousands of visitors over a generation.

Intelligent design or creationism by any other 'intelligent' description found a new home. The State of Kansas, where Dorthy and Toto sailed off in the fantasy land of Oz, has once again proven it's inability to grasp at reality. :: Sigh ::

EDIT: Since this seems to have attracted some attention...

Research versus Opinions

One of the things I've always prided myself for and not in a sinful way, is my willingness to consider all sides of a situation. So long as they have a well founded and supportable argument, I'll listen. When I can't be sure about a matter, I research it at known and trustworthy sources.

Now do understand I certainly believe in a higher or greater set of powers. Call him/her/it whatever you may chose (and many different societies have). I certainly believe they have an influence in our everyday life. I can even accept that a greater power guided in the creation of the world we call home over millions of years, but that wasn't over a short period of time or the very direct 'fill in the blanks' theory that Creationism/Intelligent Design advances.

Now some of the recent news articles and documents supporting ID say that it still all happens in a matter of a few thousand years. That discounts scientifically proven facts on chemical formation (over time) and fossilized remains of various creatures, including primates that show increasingly human qualities.

The fact is, there isn't enough supportable pieces of evidence to build a case for intelligent design. Unless one adds religious belief to the mix, it simply doesn't hold water. Show me the proof, and I don't mean a Wookie Defense... I mean evidence. Darwin has it thus far.

The State of Kansas will find itself sued and taken to court the moment any of this is attempted in implimentation. Then it'll have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in multiple courts to defend it's ungrounded decision. All of this will cost the tax payers there and the kids who could better be served of that money.
