jjmaccrimmon: (On High)
With several bits of real world mayhem interviening, I thought it was about time to conclude the grand tour of the mining district with a stop in Randsburg, CA.

After getting the kids home from pinging through ColdStone it was time was time for last of the house cleaning. While I sent the kids to do their various chores, I started into mopping the floor in the kitchen and dining room. I didn’t want to stand in a dirty kitchen, fixing salad, corn on the cob and steaks. Mostly I wanted the place to look nice and generally make a good impression on the close friend who came over to join us for the evening. Yes, happily, I had something of a dinner date. The lovely sweet lady came over and chatted, sipped wine, munched on dinner, and then watched The Incredibles on DVD with us. Remarkably, the kids behaved fairly well. I genuinely think they like her and vice versa.

In any case, we stayed up very late chatting and discovering a number of shared interests. So late that we lost track of time and it got very late. It’s nice finding someone mature (close to my age but with my youthful outlook on life), serious but not overly so, and relatively close by to hang out with. There’s so few people in this area that I genuinely enjoy hanging out with, painfully fewer who are my age range and even less that are single.

Amazingly after a very pleasant evening, I struggled out of bed the headed to fencing practice Sunday morning. By about 11:15a, I was beat and packing down the gear. I got in some good training time, but was noticeably sloppy at the end. Rather than nailing someone hard or stepping into too many more shots, it was time to stop. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed that [livejournal.com profile] imperfectgrace and her friend [livejournal.com profile] oneintheyarbles (and what are the Yarbles?) didn't come out to the practice. I'd hoped to chat with Vikki and to look at Angie's Sony camera. ::Sigh::

I decided to take up and offer for lunch at Coach’s (Sports Bar and Grill) with some of the gang. Much as I enjoy Coach’s, Chris whined and complained about the noise and the food and made the lunch unpleasant. Near the end of the meal, a bit of playful banter between several of us, hit a very sore note (an overly barbed retort). I’m writing off any ill feelings there because I was too tired to effectively judge the intent behind the comment. Got home and subsequently caught shit from Brenna because I went to Coaches for lunch and didn’t freaken drive across town to pick her up, drive back and treat her. Needless to say, my daughter and I got into a full blown screaming fest. Given her dramatic and increasingly intense mood swings, I’m guessing her first period / start of puberty is going to drop on the household very soon and with the effects of a dirty atom bomb.

Oh well, I napped till 5ish and had to deal with Brenna a bit more over the lunch arrangements till I finally lost my semi-conscious, over stressed temper and vented at her full blast. Sadly I had to reduce her to tears to get her to give up on this feeling that she was overlooked, unfairly treated and generally not getting as much as her little bro. By 7pm, she was her normal self again and playful as ever.

Despite the issues with Brenna, I consider the weekend was very promising, wonderful and fun. I can’t wait for the next one.
